The National Assembly in Nigeria has passed the 2016 budget of 6.06 trillion Naira. The budget passed on Wednesday by the Senate and the House of Representatives was 17 billion Naira lower than the figure of 6.07 trillion Naira presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly in December. The Joint Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives on Appropriations on Wednesday assured Nigerians that the N6.08tn for this year budget would be passed on March 17, 2016. The committees stated that the final report on the appropriation bill would be laid on the floor of both chambers of the National Assembly on March 16 for consideration and subsequent passage the following day. President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded an official letter addressed to Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, and Yakubu Dogara, the speaker of the House of Representatives, asking for adjustments of the 2016 budget. According to Thisday, after presenting the 2016 budget to the NASS President Buhari had discovered that some of the figures proposed were incredibly high. They were widely discussed by Nigerians and in press, with the emphasis that the new administration is no different from Goodluck Jonathan’s team.
Therefore, the figures for the office of the president, vice president, and a few ministries, are reportedly subject to a review in the first place.
